As I am now halfway through my year of mission (already?!) I thought I would share some Bible verses that I have discovered throughout my time. Sometimes at church I am not lucky enough to have a translator and this has led to me reading more of the Bible than I ever have before. I’m also paying much more attention to the passages that are translated for me to read as they are the only thing in English to capture my attention. So, enjoy!
Matthew 18:3-5 “and said, ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”
2 Corinthians 6:4-8 “4but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger, 6by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, 7truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true;”
Philippians 4:8-9 “8Finally beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 “14And we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, we encourage the faint hearted, help the weak, be patient will all of them. 15See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all.”
James 5:4-6 “4Listen! The wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. 5You have lived on the earth in luxury and in pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. 6You have condemned and murdered the righteous one, who does not resist you.”
1 Peter 4: 7-11 “7The end of all things is near’ therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers. 8Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 10Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. 11Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.”
Jude 24-25 “24Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of His glory with rejoicing, 25to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”
