You can all breathe a collective sigh of relief as you are saved from my ramblings this week. I asked my host dad, Papa Barn, to write something short about the importance of prayer, and this is what he sent me! Enjoy!
God knows everything. So, we cannot tell him any news. He knows our thoughts. Prayer is not a time to go with your wish LIST!!
When understanding how to begin relationship with God, you surrender and accept the atonement for your sinful nature, and commit to faith in the sacrifice Jesus paid for our Salvation as the only price.
Prayer then becomes time of initiating and growing in fellowship with God. It is time to just feel His presence. Adore him, confess who He is, and praise Him for all He has done for you, and tell Him how you feel about Him. Expressing your heart to Him. To feel the warmth of His presence.
Time in prayer is time to grow your relationship with God. He knows you, what you think, how you feel, but you still want to share with Him what’s inside, your anxieties, fears, joys, hopes, frustrations and desires. Your thoughts about your loved ones, your country and others you know that need His help.
It is time to listen to Him. His encouragement, His exaltation, His Correction. It is also time to share with God your afterthoughts! Oh, by the way God!
Sometimes prayer can be intense, when you are up in arms fighting the influence of the devil in your thoughts, pulling down the strongholds of the devil and evil spirits in your thoughts (2 Cor 10:5) and body. Refusing that the devil will have his way in your life. Calling for help in the battle with the dark forces. (Ephesians 6:10-16)
It is also a time for repentance. Pleading with God for mercy for committed sins.
“If you have words and thoughts, you can pray.”
